Award in Education and Training (AET) (13 CPD Points)
Are you thinking of a career change? Have you always wanted to teach but didn’t know how to get started? If you have an interest in teaching or assessing in Further Education, this course is an ideal starting point even if you are not currently in a teaching role.
The Award in Education and Training (AET) Level 3 is a mandatory minimum qualification for all those teaching in Further Education Colleges and replaces the old PTLLS qualification. This course is suitable if you work or want to work as a teacher/trainer/tutor in adult and community education.
This qualification is targeted at those who are new to teaching; and can be regarded as a stepping stone to the certificate (CET) and diploma (DET) at a later date.
Throughout this course you will come to understand the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training. You will learn how to use inclusive teaching and learning approaches, and understand the principles and practices of assessment in education and training.
Qualified tutors support students with regular feedback and guidance, ensuring everyone has completed their assignments and ready to present their micro teach sessions to the group - either face to face, or via Skype.
The online AET means you get to study at times to suit you, and most of our students choose to access the course in the evenings and over the weekend.
Students must be prepared to work on an intensive basis over 8 days. The best approach is to work on the tasks every day (usually evenings) and over one weekend.
8 Day course delivered online with dedicated tutor support to give you guidance and feedback on your assignments and your lesson plan for the micro teach session (delivered on the last day).
Students are required to read course notes, participate in discussion forums and complete the set assignments / tasks. Tasks include producing a 15-minute lesson plan, presenting the lesson to the rest of the group, evaluation of another micro teach session and then producing a reflective journal summarising your learning experience.
Various course dates are available with Skype option for those unable to travel to our training centre at Milton Keynes for the micro teach session. You will be able to select your session from the available dates when you book your course. The course material will only be made available on the first day of the course.
